Bible Chapter Timeline of Old Testament Tanakh

Most timeline charts focus on events and people.  This chart generally focuses on: What person or event has the most chapters.  Things to note:

  • Right: Book of Genesis covers a very large time period Adam-to-Egypt.  76% of it’s 50 chapters chronicles the faith and development of the nation of Israel: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (Israel & his 12 sons). Joseph is discussed the most – focusing on how Israel arrived in Egypt.
  • Center burst ~1500: YHWH delivers Israel from Egypt and they begin a journey to a promised land.  Moses & Aaron are leaders.   YHWH provides laws on how to govern the nation of Israel and orders of worship service.
  • Left ~1000: Israel’s zenith:  ideal faithful kings: David & Solomon, faith in YHWH, conquering enemies, greatest expanse of boarders, establishing Jerusalem, building a temple.
  • Left: The majority of the O.T. Tanakh focuses on YHWH’s dealings with Israel – Nations that attacked Israel – prophets and leaders that either reformed or lead Israel astray.  (e.g. Isaiah = Israel’s captivity;  Ezekiel & Jeremiah = Judah’s captivity. )
  • Top Left: Psalms – heart, soul, and mind of the faithful toward YHWH their God.
  • Geographical summary: Israel is promised a land, journey to the land, conquer the land, become unfaithful in the land, loose the land, return to the land.
  • Messiah summary: A genealogy starting with Adam and Eve  who’s lineage contains a promised  ”seed” that will bring a blessing:  A king, anointed, deliverer, saviour that will rule over the kingdom in justice and peace.
