Hebrew Poetry

In order to sing the Psalms it is very useful to understand how Hebrew poetry works. Hebrew poetry is mainly in the form of:

  1. Parallelism
  2. Acrostic

Modern English bibles use indentation as markers for assisting the reader in identifying Hebrew Parallelism.  The following is an Insert to help identify the forms of Hebrew Parallelism:

When preparing a Psalm to be sung, try to split the Psalm into the two columns of parallelism.    Prior to learning Hebrew/Parallelism – I would split the song verses up by the English punctuation - later I discovered that the punctuation would roughly follow parallelism.
